Children working the nets on Lake Volta
A CNN investigation estimated 20,000 children working on the lake, many sold by their families to fishermen.
28 February 2019

CNN's Freedom Project investigation documented children working in the fishing industry on Lake Volta, estimating around 20,000, many of whom had been handed over by families and were unable to leave.
The work includes diving to free nets snagged on submerged trees. Children drown doing it.
After the investigation, Ghanaian officials publicly promised action and acknowledged the scale of the problem. The United States Department of Labor continues to list fishing among Ghana's worst forms of child labour.
