Rights groups set out what the government must fix
Amnesty International urged the incoming administration to act on gender equality, peaceful assembly, and the right to a healthy environment.

When John Mahama took office, Amnesty International called on the new government to seize its mandate to protect human rights, naming gender equality and women's rights, the right to peaceful assembly, and the right to a healthy environment for everyone in Ghana.
The environmental demand is concrete. Unregulated small-scale gold mining has left rivers that communities drink from running orange with sediment and mercury, and farmland unusable. The people affected rarely have lawyers.
We track the promises made at the start of this term against what has actually changed in the communities concerned.
