Renewed Bawku violence brings deaths, curfew and displacement
Government confirmed a rising death toll from the chieftaincy conflict and deployed security forces.
29 October 2024

Ghanaian outlets reported that renewed violence in the long-running Bawku chieftaincy conflict pushed the confirmed death toll to 16, with government imposing a curfew and deploying security forces. Some local reports put the figure higher.
Curfews close markets, schools and clinics. Children lose terms of schooling; traders lose the season.
The dispute is decades old and has repeatedly produced deadly violence without a durable settlement.
