Calls to end discrimination against persons with albinism

Disability organisations want protective legislation, skin-cancer prevention and an end to stigma.

13 June 2026

The Ghana Federation of Disability Organisations' regional president called on government to intensify efforts to end discrimination against persons with albinism and to promote their inclusion, the Ghana News Agency reported.

An alternative report submitted to the UN Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities by the Africa Albinism Network documents stigma, health risks including skin cancer, and the absence of specific protective legislation in Ghana.

Children with albinism face the sharpest version of this: exclusion at school, and sun exposure that becomes a medical emergency by adulthood.
